Salazar speaks and MMS break-up begins, USA
CBJ May 20 - As promised, the break-up of the United States agency responsible for overseeing offshore drilling has begun in light of the tragic incident at British Petroleum’s Deepwater Horizon rig in the Gulf of Mexico, which has been ongoing and caused potentially irreparable damage since April 20, 2010.
Ken Salazar, the US Interior Secretary, has penned an order to separate the MMS, Minerals Management Service into three parts, breaking up what has been deemed to be an unsuccessful government body.
"This reorganization is vital to ongoing reform efforts," he told press.
"We will be able to strengthen oversight of the companies that develop our nation's energy resources."
